The author traces the very early history of the Chase, some of which is little known. Then the student of hound-breeding will find much of interest in the chapter, “The Foxhound in Art”, which gives comments on many famous hounds. This is followed by “The Hunter in Art” as show in paintings by contemporary artists who really knew and loved their work. The author gives absorbing accounts of the intimate life and surroundings of many of the great artists, specializing in Hunting pictures from Wotton to Munnings. He then gives most readable details of practically every pack of Foxhounds which existed or still exists in England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland._x000d_
