Jeremy Hobson has followed beagles all his life, and in this book, plentifully illustrated and with beautiful colour, he really captures the excitement and pleasure to be gained from the sport.
Beagling is not always fully understood, even by those who have been following hounds for some time, and the author, drawing on the experience of hunt staff and keen beagle followers, looks at the sport in detail: the technicalities of hunting;
the day-to-day workings of the hunt kennels; breeding, puppy walking and entering hounds, and what the newcomer to beagling should exp[ect on the first day out.
The social side of the sport is included, as well as the pressures from anti-bloodsport groups.
There is an excellent glossary of beagling terms, a list of registered packs, and information on the Association of Masters of Harriers and Beagles.
This is a superb introduction to this popular sport, both for the uninitiated and for those who follow beagles regularly but who would like to know more
