From the day in 1908 when John Cusack ran away from home in the Gorbals to enlist in The Royal Scots Greys, his life has been spent with horses from Glasgow to Egypt, from India to South Africa, then to the battlefields of Flanders where he won The Military Medal for bravery in the field, from the British Army of occupation in Cologne to Kapuskasing in Ontario, and finally to Royal Hospital Chelsea for as he said “I started my life in a scarlet coat and I shall end my days in one”
